Melba Huber of Melba’s Dance School Announces Unique Advertising Plan to Keep Her Daughter At Home: needs help with 24/7 nursing costs

In 1980, Laurin Huber nearly died from a head injury sustained in a tragic car wreck. Since then, she has required around-the-clock nursing. Laurin has no controlled movement and can do nothing for herself.

She has intellect and enjoys television and an eye-gaze computer. During the initial years of her medical care, funds from an insurance settlement paid for her 24/7 nursing care. Now, that money is gone. The monthly shortfall in her nursing expenses is about $5,000.

For the first time in 58 years of business, Melba Huber of Melba’s Dance School is opening her complex of seven dance studios and a retail dance shoppe to advertising. Melba’s is the largest dancing school in South Texas. The school produces two dance performances a year: a February ballet and variety show by McAllen Dance Theatre and a May recital with two performances. From mid August to May, Melba’s averages 15 daily classes with 20 students per class. If you add one parent that takes the total to 600 people a day in addition to the regular store traffic. There are six weeks of classes in the summer.

From an advertising perspective, Melba’s Dance School offers businesses access to a demographic that most would like to reach. For a full-page ad in two dance programs, the price is $550. The May recital is so large that there are two performances where printed dance programs are distributed. The February show of the McAllen Dance Theatre features Melba’s advanced dancers. The specifications for these ads are 5.5″ X 8.5″ (vertical), 300 DPI with a 1/4″ bleed.

Poster Ads Above Dance Studio Viewing Windows–Three Choices

In addition to the full-page program ads, businesses can receive advertising impressions for an entire year in the high-traffic areas of the Melba’s Dance School complex. Melba’s has two main waiting rooms for parents and children. One is downstairs and the other is upstairs. The downstairs waiting room (pictured below) separates two studios (A & G). Windows into both of these studios allow parents to watch their children while they dance. Two of the prime advertising spaces are located immediately above each of the viewing windows. Another is the north wall of the downstairs waiting room that contains a door to the hallway that exits the building and a door that leads to the drinking fountain and restrooms. Currently, there is a bulletin board there, but it will be moved as needed to make room for ads from Laurin’s Gold Angels. The south side of this waiting room leads to Melba’s upstairs studios and to the dancewear retail store. This downstairs waiting room is the hub of Melba’s through which most dance students and parents must pass or wait.

Laurin’s Gold Angel ad package ($2500) includes full-page ads in both of Melba’s dance programs. The 16” x 20” ad poster for each advertiser will remain on display at Melba’s for one year. Placards will be hung above each section of ad posters in the downstairs waiting room that read, “Laurin’s Gold Angels” along with the website dedicated to her care (WeLoveLaurin.org). Ad posters will remain on display for one year. Each Gold Angel pays for approximately 15 days of nursing care for Laurin.

The Silver Angel ad package at $1,250 a year is also available. Silver Angel advertisers receive full-page ads in both of Melba’s dance programs and ad posters (16″ X 20″) in Melba’s upstairs waiting room pictured below. Ad posters for Laurin’s Silver Angels will be placed above the viewing windows in the upstairs studio. When these areas are full, other upstairs areas will feature Silver Angel ad posters. The upstairs waiting room next to Studio D pictured here gets a lot of attention because Melba’s best dancers in her performing company use this studio a lot.

In addition to full-page ads in Melba’s printed dance programs and ad posters on display for a year in Melba’s Dance School waiting rooms, Silver, Gold and Gold-Plus Angels will receive logo or name recognition on the Laurin’s Angels web page on the WeLoveLaurin.org website. Business logos will be active links to advertiser websites. Also, a post about the advertiser will appear on the We Love Laurin Facebook page (facebook.com/welovelaurin).

Melba’s Display Windows Facing 10th Street Feature Gold-Plus Ads at $5000

During Melba’s store hours, all customers enter through the dancewear shop that has two show windows. A Gold-Plus Angel ($5000) receives all the benefits of a Gold Angel plus an ad poster (24″ X 36″) on an easel in the display window for one month.

Ad posters (16″ X 20″) will appear in Melba’s downstairs and upstairs waiting rooms. Thanks to Charlie Clark Nissan and Davis Equity Real Estate, Laurin’s GoldPlus Angel ad package is off to a wonderful start. Owners of these companies have already written checks for $5,000. Each has paid for one month of nursing for Laurin.

Individuals who simply want to help Laurin are welcome to buy poster space and ads with a message to Laurin with their photo on the ad poster. It can be a beautiful dance photo on display for one year. This would make a great present.
